Day 17 (Thursday 7.7.22)

Meditation brings us into direct relationship with our thoughts. 

Not as a way to clear the mind of our thoughts (that is not the point). 

But as a way to show our thoughts who’s boss, so to speak. 

As a tool to… 

  • Recognize the stories that stick us; 

  • Choicefully and intentionally shift the habits that we have cemented around them that don’t actually serve us;

  • Begin to create new responses that might; 

  • Ask ourselves the wild but simple question — why do I believe my thoughts?! 

Today’s guided 15-minute meditation gets right to the heart of working with our thoughts. 

And I *highly* recommend making space for 10-15 minutes of journaling afterward with this potent prompt from Pema Chödron: 

“Sit quietly for a few minutes and become mindful of your breath as it goes in and out. Then contemplate what you do when you’re unhappy or dissatisfied and want to feel better. Even make a list if you want to. Then ask yourself: Does it work? Has it ever worked? Does it soothe the pain? Does it escalate the pain? If you’re really honest, you’ll come up with some pretty interesting observations.”

In case you haven’t checked out the evening practice yet for this 10-day period, the closing poem gets right to the heart of this question “Does it work?”

And “does it work” gets to the heart of these 10 days of letting go ;)
