Day 16
It’s good to be with you again today.
Today is Easter. And whether that means anything to you, the word at the center of this day feels like a long-awaited invitation for us all to consider at some point soon, if not already. If not today.
Resurrection.
Or simpler, more literal, perhaps: to rise up.
Or a concept that feels similar and more applicable, perhaps, to our lives in this moment: reemergence.
I’ve got no wisdom of my own to share as an answer just yet.
But I feel grateful to have the question to even consider.
And I’ll bolster all our reflections with two things that fortify me most in heartfelt quests.
A poem by Mary Oliver.
And the lovingkindness meditation.
(We’ll go back to the good work of dissolving tomorrow, not to worry ;)
For now. Reemergence. Love, kindness. Poems. Yes.
To it all. And, to YOU,
Catherine
p.s. Leave a comment if you’d like to share anything about how yesterday felt for you. Or how it feels to be back. We’d love to hear!
And a poem by Mary Oliver. Ok two. Because I couldn’t choose. And there’s still so many more.
Don’t Hesitate
If you suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy,
don’t hesitate. Give in to it. There are plenty
of lives and whole towns destroyed or about
to be. We are not wise, and not very often
kind. And much can never be redeemed.
Still, life has some possibility left. Perhaps this
is its way of finding back, that sometimes
something happens better than all the riches
or power in the world. It could be anything,
but very likely you notice it in the instant
when love begins. Anyway, that’s often the
case. Anyway, whatever it is, don’t be afraid
of its plenty. Joy is not made to be a crumb.
Whistling Swans
Do you bow your head when you pray or do you look
up into the blue space?
Take your choice. Prayers fly from all directions.
And don’t worry about what language you use,
God no doubt understands them all.
Even when the swans are flying north and making
such a ruckus of a noise, God is surely listening
and understanding.
Rumi said, There is no proof of the soul.
But isn’t the return of spring and how it
springs up in our hearts a pretty good hint?
Yes, I know, God’s silence never breaks, but is
that really a problem?
There are thousands of voices, after all.
And furthermore, don’t you imagine (I just suggest it)
That the swans know about as much as we do about
the whole business?
So listen to them and watch them, singing as they fly.
Take from it what you can.
