Day 14

Yesterday morning, we had phenomenal fog.

Lou, my three-year-old, saw it and exclaimed, “Mama! What’s that smoke?!”

This phenomenally dense fog.

And yet, diffuse.

At first, thick, like a cotton blanket.

But I stayed to watch it. And as my eyes trained on it all, I saw — peeking through the ashen curtain — textured aliveness.

Textured aliveness!

Tiny greening, furry branches (Pussy willows grown passed the point when they’re usually clipped and dried and sold at Trader Joes. Pussy willows in the wild!).

Grass turning green again.

Daffodils impossibly, possibly about to blossom.

All that life, peeking through from behind the drab grey.

In time, the fog began to lift.

In time.

Its “progress” painfully slow. (Imagine how deeply held I am by this notion of progress that I can’t think of another word right now to describe the fog’s movement, its pace!)

By mid-morning, it had burned away.

The day’s clarity and the warmth of the upper-40s and our own quickening as we went from thing to thing and about our day made it seem like the fog was all a dream.

It’s like that often, when we get through to the other side of density, isn’t it?

Like it was all a dream.

So here we are.

Whenever and however our clarity begins to emerge, let it help us hold the shapes and colors of bold beauty and new life.

How the fog clears is as important that the fog clears.

Can it be that how we let go, how we bow down, how we dissolve is as important that we release, end, complete, leave, die?

We’ll start with this question in our group live today at 1pm EST. Zoom info is below.

And we’ll keep it simple until then with the same choice as yesterday:

  1. Move toward what you’re naturally drawn to (if you “like” something, you’re more likely to do it again, right?)

  2. Stay curious about what you’re absolutely averse to (what we’re sure “is not for us” often is exactly what we need.)

And choose:

  1. Day 11’s “one-and-a-half-minute thing” or

  2. Day 12’s “3 simple steps”

Leave a comment below: how are you today? (That “simple” of a prompt ;))

Hope to see you soon,
Catherine
